For thousands of years the inhabitants of central Idaho have had their character shaped by the vastly diverse, magnificent natural landscape. While modern technology has simplified and made procedures for work and play easier that accomplishes fast gratification, many of us show an appreciation in the history, culture and methods and resources of the past.
With the use of "old school" large format sheet film and field cameras I strive to create highly detailed, sharp, accurate photographs that portrays the transient wonder of our landscape. It is my intention that with dedication to the slow process my style of photography will do some justice for the landscape that we're so fortunate to have sustain and nourish us.
As Wendell Berry say "unless you know where you are, you don't know who you are."

When CusterTel recently completed renovations to its Challis office, it offered a much more customer -friendly reception area, but also created an expansive blank wall as a focal point of the space. CusterTel General Manager JD Bennetts and Challis Arts Council (CAC) President Anna Means saw this "blank canvas" as a small gallery space for regional artists to exhibit work for and about Central Idaho and formed a community partnership to get it done.
The new space will feature shows quarterly, beginning with the work of James Andrews, which opened April 1. Andrews, who grew up on a Challis cattle ranch, first pursued a career as a rodeo professional but a serious injury ended that dream. He turned to the creative life of a painter, and has not looked back. As viewers will discover at the CusterTel site, his Challis and rodeo lives have inspired much of his work.
The CusterTel exhibit is abbreviated because of space, but interested viewers will get a chance to see a much larger selection of Andrews' paintings when Challis Arts Council presents a full exhibit of his work at the MadDog Gallery May 24 through July 5.
For further information, please call the CAC office at 208-879-2745.
Photo Description: CusterTel General Manager JD Bennetts and Challis Arts Council President Anna Means are all smiles as they inaugurate the first painting exhibit at CusterTel's newly renovated front office. The two organizations will feature shows focusing on Challis and the region quarterly. Up now are paintings by James Andrews, Challis native and past rodeo rider whose oils reflect his past.

This single panel of painter Bonnie Peacher's triptych "At the End of the Day" is now featured at CAC's mini-gallery at the CusterTel office at 1101 East Main Street in Challis.
